Indonesia to move its capital from Jakarta

Indonesia’s planning minister, Bambang Brodjonegoro had disclosed that Indonesia will be moving its capital away from Jakarta.

The new location is yet to be known.

Jakarta is one of the fastest sinking cities in the world. Large parts of the mega-city could be completely submerged by 2050.

The city is located on swampy land which is crisscrossed by 13 rivers and continues to sink at an average of 1-1.5cm yearly.

According to a 2016 survey, it was discovered that the city had the worst traffic congestion.
