Chris Hughes who helped Mark Zuckerberg transform Facebook to a business entity, now says it’s time to split it up.
He is calling on regulators to break up Facebook in a lengthy opinion piece published on Thursday, by the New York Times.
Hughes writes that Zuckerberg has ”unchecked power and influence, far beyond that of anyone else in the private sector or in government.”
He continues ”I’m disappointed in myself and the early Facebook team for not thinking more about how the News Feeds algorithm could change our culture, influence elections and empower nationalistic leaders.”
Hughes is the latest among prominent entrepreneurs and tech executives calling for stricter regulations of Facebook and other online platforms, following the wave of scandals related to election meddling, data privacy and the spread of fake information.
