Binyavanga Wainaina, Kenyan author and activist has died at the age of 48
He passed away after a brief illness, on Tuesday.
Wainaina was the founder of the literary magazine, ‘Kwani’. He went on to win the Caine Prize for African Writing for his short story ‘Discovery Home’ in 2002.
He publicly announced that he was gay in 2014, following the passage of a series of anti-gay law across Africa.
Wainaina was included in the Time Magazine list of the Most Influential People In The World in 2014.
In December 2016, he told the world he was HIV-positive.
