More than $1 billion worth of cocaine seized in a raid at a Philadelphia port (see photos)

A billion-dollar worth of cocaine weighing more than 16.5 tons have been seized from a ship belonging to the Mediterranean Shipping Co. at the Parker Marine Terminal in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Several crew members of the cargo ship, MSC Gayane have been arrested. The ship which originated in Chile had traveled through Panama and the Bahamas before docking at the Parker Marine Terminal in Philadelphia, a senior official at the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) told CBS News.

The U.S Attorney, William McSwain, Eastern District of Pennsylvania has tweeted “This is one of the largest drug seizures in United States history. The amount of cocaine could kill millions-MILLIONS-of people. My office is committed to keeping our borders secure and streets safe from deadly narcotics.”
