Giannis Antetokounmpo, Greek-Nigerian, named NBA’s Most Valuable Player (see photos)

Giannis Antetokounmpo, 24-year-old Greek-Nigerian NBA star who plays forward for Milwaukee Bucks basketball team in the US was named the Most Valuable Player in the NBA, Monday night.

Antetokounmpo born in Greece to Nigerian migrant parents went on to beat Paul George of the Oklahoma City Thunder and James Harden of the Houston Rockets to win the award.

He scored 941 points and 78 first-place votes in the balloting ahead of Harden who came second with 776 points and 23 first-place votes.

He gave a heartfelt speech thanking his coaches, teammates and his late father, Charles. See his speech below-

“I want to thank my dad. Obviously, you know, he’s not here with me. Two years ago, I had the goal in my head that I’m going to be the best player in the league and I’m going to do whatever it takes to help my team win and I’m going to win the MVP,” he said.”Everyday that I step on the floor, I always think about my dad and that motivates me, that pushes me to play harder and move forward.”
