Ive, designer of iMac, iPod and iPhone has been instrumental into turning Apple into the world’s most valuable company.

He will be starting his own creative firm, LoveFrom, with Apple as its first client.

Ive said, “This just seems like a natural and gentle time to make this change. While I will not be an Apple employee, I will still be very involved. I hope for many, many years to come.”

Regarded as one of the world’s most famous industrial designer and the custodian of the entire Apple aesthetics from the hardware and software to its physical architecture, his departure will come as a shock to its customers and investors as many see Ive as one of its most crucial assets.

Tim Cook, Apple boss said his “role in Apple’s revival cannot be overstated.”

Sir Jonathan Ive is seen by some observers as more important than Tim Cook to Apple’s pipelines of future innovations and has provided vital continuity for Apple’s strategic vision since the death of its co-founder, Steve Jobs. He was knighted in 2012 by the Queen of England.
