British Airways fined more than £189m for customer data breach

British Airways announced yesterday that it has been notified by the UK Information Commission’s office that it would be hitting British Airways with a fine of more than £189 million because of customers’ data breach which led to the theft of people’s data from its website.

British Airways Chairman, Alex Cruz said the airline was “disappointed” by the initial finding. He further said that “British Airways responded quickly to a criminal act to steal customers’ data. We found no evidence of fraud/fraudulent activity on accounts linked to the theft.”

Metro UK had reported that the CEO of International Airlines Group (IAG), owner of British Airways said the airline would make “any necessary appeals” against the penalty.
